Our Mission

At the Carroll Center for the Blind, we are committed to empowering individuals who are blind or visually impaired to reach their full potential. We believe that every individual, regardless of age or stage of vision loss, deserves to live an independent and fulfilling life. Our mission is to provide comprehensive services and support to achieve this goal.

Our Services

We offer a wide range of services to individuals of all ages and stages of vision loss. Our services are designed to promote independence, self-confidence, and personal growth.

Children

For children up to the age of 13 years old who are blind or have low vision, we offer a multitude of services that parents can depend on to ensure that developmental milestones are met. Our services include:

  • Assistive Technology Services: We provide devices and strategies to help children with vision loss access digital media, communicate, and learn.
  • Vision Services: Our low vision clinic offers comprehensive eye examinations and prescriptions for children who are blind or have low vision.
  • Orientation & Mobility: Our expert instructors teach children important skills such as movement, navigation, and spatial awareness.
  • CarrollKids Summer Program: We offer a fun and engaging summer program that aims to boost self-confidence and social skills.
  • Braille Events: We host regular Braille reading events to promote literacy and numeracy skills.

Teens

For students between the ages of 14 to 21 years old who are blind or have low vision, we offer a variety of programs to help them transition into young adulthood:

  • Summer Programs: Our summer programs focus on vocational skills, social skills, and personal development.
  • CarrollPrep Technology Services: We provide expert training on assistive technology and digital skills.
  • Transition Services: Our team supports teens with the transition to young adulthood, focusing on life skills, networking, and employment preparation.

Adults

Our comprehensive vision rehabilitation programs are designed for both newly-blinded adults and those who have had a significant loss in vision over time. Our services include:
