Empowering Independence through Accessible Services

The Joplin Association for the Blind, founded in 1923 and incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in 1925, is governed by a voluntary Board of Directors. The Joplin Association for the Blind is a United Way partner agency. Our primary service area is an 80-mile radius of Joplin, Missouri, serving the four-state areas of Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. The majority of our clients are low vision and access services through the Low Vision Enhancement Center. We continue to expand our resources and facility to provide added low vision assistance for our clients.

Our mission is to help meet the changing needs of individuals with low vision or blindness, by addressing their needs from a physical, medical, social, and emotional approach. We serve children, youth, and adults, and we are dedicated to providing the highest quality services to ensure the best possible outcomes for our clients.

Low Vision Enhancement Center

The Low Vision Enhancement Center is our largest and fastest growing service. It is not a clinical setting, but an evaluation and resource center. We offer a variety of services and resources to help individuals with low vision to enhance their daily lives.

Brail Lending Library

The Letha Dangerfield Children's Braille Lending Library is another valuable resource for our clients. Volunteer workers assist with maintaining the library, and we can create modified library books for children as well.

Service Club Tuesday Lunch

The Joplin Service Club of the Blind has a weekly luncheon for any blind or visually impaired adults who would like to attend. This is a great opportunity for our clients to socialize and connect with others who share similar experiences.

JAB Support Groups

Our Adult and Children Support Groups have members who are visually impaired, and family members who rotate as their differing needs are met. These groups provide a safe and supportive environment for our clients to discuss their challenges and successes.

Transportation

We understand that transportation can be a significant barrier for many of our clients. Therefore, we provide transportation services to ensure that everyone can access our services and programs.

Referral Service

We have established a strong network of partnerships with other agencies and eye care doctors in the community to provide quality referral services. We believe that collaboration is key to providing the best possible outcomes for our clients.

At the Joplin Association for the Blind, we are committed to enhancing the lives of individuals with low vision or blindness. We are dedicated to providing a wide range of services and resources to meet the unique needs of each of our clients. If you or a loved one is in need of our services, please do not hesitate to contact us.
