Our journey began in 1992 when Eugene Washburn, a dedicated and passionate HVAC technician, started servicing and installing furnaces, air conditioners, boilers, and water heaters. He established Washburn Heating and Air Conditioning, becoming part of the Air Serve franchise for nearly a decade. Eugene and his wife, Darcy, ran the business with unwavering integrity and a genuine desire to serve their customers. Years of dedication and experience laid the groundwork for a reputation built on trust and reliability.

As Eugene neared retirement in December 2014, he sought someone who shared his values and unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional customer service. Enter Stephen P. VanderWerf, a seasoned professional with deep expertise in the HVAC industry. Stephen, who had begun his career in 1983 co-founding VanderWerf Energy, Inc. with his father, Ralph, brought his extensive knowledge and experience in geothermal systems and energy management to Washburn Heating and Air Conditioning.

After a careful search, Eugene entrusted Stephen with the business, marking a new chapter in the company's history. Stephen relocated the business to a dedicated facility at 509 South Main Street in Middlebury, ensuring continued accessibility to the same phone number (574) 825-7697.

This strategic move transitioned Washburn Heating and Cooling from its home-based origins to a professional and customer-centric environment.
