Our History

Overisel Lumber Company was originally founded in the small farming community of Overisel, Michigan. The name "Overisel" comes from the Dutch province of Overijssel, meaning "Lands across the River Ijssel." When our ancestors moved to West Michigan, they chose to honor their homeland by naming their new community "Overisel." In 1960, Gord Zuiverink and El Slenk purchased the lumberyard part of the business and moved it to the growing town of Holland. Despite the move, we have retained the name "Overisel" as a symbol of our heritage and commitment to the values of trust and value that it represents.
